Benefits of Volunteering

In Girl Scouting, you can make a difference in the life of a girl. And you can make a difference in your own life, too. You can gain skills for your resume, network with active, involved adults, the best friends you’ve ever had. Try new things you thought you were too old to try. Discover things about the world, and about yourself. Go on adventures that some folks just dream about. Laugh more than you ever have before. Because the best part is the fun!

There is a volunteer opportunity to fit every schedule and every interest. Leaders who work directly with the girls are always needed. Other possibilities include training other adults, being part of a service team, sharing skills with girls, working with product sales, having fun at day camp, taking photographs, mentoring a girl, helping raise funds, and so much more. The opportunities are almost unlimited and always changing. You may find that deciding to be a volunteer for Girl Scouts is one of the best decisions you have ever made!

How to become a volunteer

Since 1912, volunteers and staff working together have served more than 50 million girls in the United States. How? Who can resist the fun of Girl Scouting? By volunteering you can meet new friends, be a mentor, acquire new skills, gain professional development opportunities through free training, give back to your community and help the Girl Scout Council of the Apalachee Bend develop girls into strong, self-assured women through a dynamic program which emphasizes character, community service, leadership and respect for others.

What do you need to do to become a volunteer?

  • Mail or fax a completed volunteer application to the Girl Scout Council of the Apalachee Bend.
  • Pay a $10 annual registration fee. This fee is payable to the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., our national organization, and includes individual accident insurance. The fee remains the same regardless of the date registered.
  • Receive adult training. Our council provides support through Orientation, New Leader Basic and Age Level Training.

Once your application is received and processed, you will be contacted by the council office or a service unit team member for volunteer placement and registration fee payment instructions. Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults regardless of ability to pay. When necessary, the Girl Scout Council of the Apalachee Bend provides financial assistance to registered girl or adult members.

Ways to volunteer

As volunteers, adults have the chance to meet new people, gain professional development opportunities and free training, use their time meaningfully, share their talents and skills and learn new ones. We can match your interests with Girl Scout troops or fellow volunteers who need your help.

Find the volunteer opportunity you are looking for, either long-term (1 year or more commitment) or short-term (less than 1 year commitment) on the pages in this section.

Volunteer Basics

Girl Scouting is a volunteer-driven organization. More that 1,500 caring, committed and responsible adult volunteers provide troop leadership for more than 3,000 girls. As more and more girls join Girl Scouting, more volunteers are needed to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to Be Her Best!

Yet, each year we have girls on a waiting list. They are waiting for adults to step forward and lead their troop. By volunteering, you can help us eliminate these waiting lists and give girls the Girl Scout experience.

We can accommodate even the busiest schedules with our flexible program.
