The Chipley City Council voted to accept the Chipley Motel as
city property when the council met Tuesday night. The property
had been seized during a drug bust some months back, and was
recently awarded to the city through a plea agreement. Council
also voted to pay off the existing mortgage on the property, in
the amount of $46,569.20. The money will come from general fund
reserves.
A
proclamation declaring the week of March 11 - 17 as "Girl Scouts
Make the World a Better Place Week" was also approved Tuesday
night. After signing the proclamation, Mayor Linda Cain
presented it to Brownie Girl Scouts Katelynn Mimms and Nikea
Smith of Troop #232 and Chris Owens, Girl Scout membership
marketing consultant.
Ordinance #876 was approved on first reading. This ordinance is
for the abandonment of a public alleyway between 4th and 5th
Streets (with Wells Avenue on the north and Forrest Avenue on
the south.)
The sale of an additional three acres in the Industrial Park to
Acadia Hardwood, adjacent to the original 10 acres already
approved, was also approved Tuesday night.
Approval was given for the Shaddai Shriners' annual "Shrine
Paper Drive" on March 24 at the intersection of Highways 90 and
77. The Shriners have provided the city with a Release and Hold
Harmless form and also proof of insurance. March 31 was
designated as an alternate date in case of rain.
A request from the Police Department for the disposal of a 1999
Ford Crown Victoria police car was approved. The vehicle is in
poor condition and has already been replaced in the fleet.
Darrin Wall was appointed to the Recreation Advisory Committee.
He fills the vacancy left by Gene Halley, and the term is until
September 30, 2009.
An agreement between the City of Chipley and Point and Pay, Inc.
was approved. This will make it possible for utility customers
to pay their bills through electronic payments, i.e. credit
cards or e-checks via internet, telephone, or at the front desk
at City Hall. An up-front cost of $4,000 for equipment is
required, but there will be no additional costs to the city as
other fees will be collected from customers choosing to use the
service.
A lease between the City of Chipley and the Washington County
Chamber of Commerce for the Old City Hall was approved. The
lease is for 99 years, and in the amount of $1. The premises are
to be dedicated and maintained in a use that is compatible with
business development, training, and other Chamber of Commerce
related activities only. Any violations will cause forfeiture of
the lease. The Chamber is responsible for all utilities,
maintenance and repairs.
A donation of two acres of land in the Tommy R. McDonald, Sr.
Industrial Park to the Washington County Chamber of Commerce was
also approved Tuesday. The property will be used for the
construction of a building to house a "business incubator" -- to
be funded through a $200,000 USDA grant.
An agreement between the City of Chipley and Baskerville
Donovan, Inc., outlining deadlines and additional payments for
the Wastewater Facility Improvements Project, was approved.
City offices will be closed Monday, February 19, in observance
of Presidents' Day. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the
Chipley City Council is March 13. |
